Kidney Shaped Canteen
This Kidney Shaped Canteen or the British Kidney Canteen is a reproduction of canteens excavated at Fort Ligonier in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. It dates from 1758 to 1766 and is accurate for F & I or Rev War time periods. This style was used from the Seven Years War through the War of 1812 and later.
It is made of tin plated steel and is soldered with lead free food grade solder. It measures 8 inches high with spout, 5 inches wide and 2 inches in depth. It holds 32 ounces, has a cork stopper, side lugs and a hemp rope sling.
These come to you lined with beeswax and ready to use.
Hand Wash and dry the canteen. DO NOT PUT IN THE DISHWASHER. Do not put hot liquids inside, cold drinks only!
If you decide to store your canteen for a bit, give it a light rub with food grade mineral oil on a cloth. Your canteen will last for many years of service if taken care of properly. Your canteen will naturally get a darkened patina with use.
The Canteen is made right here in Missouri by Colleen in her Tin Shop.
Keep in mind tin items are tin plated steel. They will develop a patina and get a bit of rust or oxidation especially along seams. Just clean with a soft cloth and some non-scratch soft cleanser.
